What inspired you to write this book?

After spending so many years in my own kitchen, preparing nourishing meals for my family and friends, I always knew one day that I would love to create a cookbook and share all I had learned. It wasn’t until I wrote my first book, The Simplicity Project, and put a few recipes out there that I felt confident enough that people would buy an ENTIRE book of recipes from me. My first book is my pride and joy, a foundational tool for women everywhere to truly understand their remarkable body, a body that deserves to feel amazing and beautiful and healthy everyday. This book, the second in my series, is all about having fun in the kitchen and learning how to create gorgeous, healthy meals that taste great, look good, and take very little time to prep! I want women, mothers, fathers, children, and families everywhere to give themselves permission to step into the kitchen, let go of all expectations, and try something new.

What do you want others to gain from your book?

To realize that healthy, whole-food eating does not have to take hours on end and leave your kitchen looking like a bomb went off. I want readers to create an experience out of their meal prep time; turn the music on, pour a great glass of wine, connect with your family, and prepare dishes that you know are adding years to your life and vitality to cells. I want readers to jump up and down with joy when they see the final product they’ve made. I want them to be so overjoyed with delicious healthy taste that this way, the simplicity way, becomes their new normal.

What was your creative process for this project?

That was the best part! I spent months in my kitchen doing what I love most . . . recipe testing, tasting, and eating. I held cooking classes, hosted dinner parties, and took all of the feedback from those who dined in my home into consideration when finalizing the seventy-some-odd recipes that fill my book. I wanted to include a variety of morning starters, snacks, lunches, salad, mains, sweets, and even a few body care inspirations. The book really felt like a jumping off point for me in terms of recipe creation moving forward. I definitely plan on releasing a series of cookbooks in the future!

Why did you choose the story-telling format you used?

The most important part of creating this book for me was the final layout. I wanted it to lay flat and be spiral bound; it is one of my biggest pet peeves when you get a great cookbook and it won’t stay open to the page you’re trying to follow. In terms of the story-telling, I do believe the recipes speak for themselves and the colour too, we tried a colourful approach to the first edition of this book as I love, love, love, colour throughout my life; in my home, on my plate, absolutely everywhere so the book was no different. I also included small Simplicity Tips throughout the book for bits of insight and extra education and inspiration on choosing, preparing, and enjoying the food we choose.

What’s next for you as an author?

I am already in the early stages of my next two projects within the Simplicity series; another cookbook, The Simplicity Body, a book completely geared towards taking care of the skin you’re in from head to toe, from everything you eat, drink, apply to your skin, wear, sleep in, and breathe in. It will be full of literature explaining the whole-body, whole-health approach to skin care, and an entirely new addition of 100 recipes for your whole body care, new food, new skincare recipes, and so much more.

I am also working on creating a hormone handbook and journalling resource called The Hormone Project, to help women fully decode their hormonal imbalances, what to ask for at the doctor’s when it comes to testing, who the best people are to see to help bring balance back into your body, exactly what signs and symptoms you need to pay attention to, how to eat, move, sleep, and breathe to bring sexy back, and finally feel like the vivacious woman you know you are!

The Simplicity Kitchen is a truly practical, hands-on, down-to-earth tutorial that you will want to go to for inspiration and motivation time and again. The tips sprinkled generously throughout help you with everything from meal-prepping and food combining to recipe variations and even making your own body care. The vibrant full-colour images leap from each page to keep you curious and engaged! In fact, before you know it, your family will be perusing its beautiful pages with you.

It is available here in the I C Bookstore now, both in paperback and in e-book (PDF), and soon on Amazon.ca. What a perfect time of the year to pick up a copy, get in the kitchen, have some fun, and create new traditions with family and friends!

Warmest regards,

Sheri
